Asia’s largest international exhibition of info-communications, the World IT Show 2018, was successfully held at the COEX Convention & Exhibition Center in Seoul.

With the theme this year of “IT’s SMART,” around 1,500 IT companies gathered in one place to introduce their newest information technologies, covering the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI) and 5G mobile communication speeds. More than 120,000 people attended the expo over four days, from May 23 to 26.

SK Telecom and KT combined their 5G and IOT networks offerings to enhance convenience for people both at home and at work.

KT attracted visitors’ attention by introducing its new IoT tech that can be applied to sensors in elevators, lights, electric devices in public apartments, or to LED displays that can be controlled by a smart phone.

At SK Telecom’s booth, 360-degree video calls or conference calls that use 5G wireless systems were popular. An SK Telecom official said, "Our 5G communications network can transmit large amounts of data without interruption, so it’s possible to make high quality 360-degree video calls."

Power Republic's wireless power technology allows up to 4KW of electricity to be transmitted and received at distance of up to 30cm without any wires.

Small and medium venture companies from across Korea also showed off their innovative products.

Power Republic, which introduced its wireless charging technology, won the WIS 2018 Innovation Award for its Wireless Aquarium. Eddie Choi, chief sales officer, said that, "Power Republic's technology can supply electricity to products without wires at a distance of up to 20cm. This means we can charge drones and electric facilities in areas that are difficult for people to reach.”

The company MOPIC won the Innovation Award for its Snap 3-D technology, a cell phone cover that allows you to view the screen of a smartphone or tablet in 3-D without using 3-D glasses. Jeesoo Jung, overseas business assistant manager at the company, said, "Snap 3-D applications recognize the iris of the user and calculates the distance from the smartphone to show an optimal 3-D image.” She added with confidence that, “Showing videos in 3-D will be helpful in the educational and promotional sectors.”
