SendBird is B2B massaging-as-a-service. It provides a chat API and chat platform for enterprises to easily and cost-effectively add in-app messaging to their apps. It supports more than 1 million concurrent connections and 500 million messages a day per application. In addition, it allows a company to fully implement chat functions for its application in a mere 5 days using the SendBird SDK, which previously required a development period of more than 2 months on average. Sendbird has a B2B model that charges a service fee on a monthly basis based on chat usage and features. John Kim, a co-founder of the company, studied computer engineering at Seoul National University, one of the most prestigious universities in Korea, and worked at and led startups. After working at NCsoft, he launched a social gaming startup, Paprika Lab and sold it to Japanese gaming firm, GREE in 2012. After successfully exiting his first startup, John Kim and three other entrepreneurs founded SendBird. Today, its clients reach over 2,000 global companies including NBA, GO-JEK and Reddit encompassing North America, Asia, Europe and South America. SendBird has raised over $120M to-date, backed by Y combinatory, Tiger Global Management, Shasta Ventures, August Capital, ICONIQ Capital and FundersClub.
